Contra Costa County was showing off it’s splendor after another bout of heavy rain; the freeways were lined with lush rolling green hills. I met with College and Career Counselors at Miramonte High and Acalanes High– both were excited to present our courses as an option for students who want to make-up low grades.
A little further east was Pittsburg High and Freedom High. Both schools displayed immense pride in their students. Their hallways were lined with student pictures, awards, and achievements. The College and Career Counselors at these schools displayed equal enthusiasm about their students’ educational careers. Scout can provide AP courses that are not available at their schools, and both counselors loved that!
My last two stops were further away from the rivers of East Bay. Heritage High sat on top of a hill and boasted beautiful views of California plains. As I walked up the stairs to the library I noticed each step was lined with encouraging and empowering words (featured above). What a great way to remind students of their potential!
Liberty High was located in the bustling downtown area of Brentwood, this was my last school visit in Contra Costa County. Their counselor was particularly excited about our Scholarship for California Public School students. Each high school is unique in their layout and need, but the one thing in common each of them had was their desire to see their students succeed. That’s the heart of Scout, and we’re so grateful that our courses get to be part of the educational journey of students across the globe!
